African companies are asserting themselves by buying abroad
Whilst there are not many merger and acquisition (M&A) deals going on in Africa, you may be surprised to note Africa companies are buying companies farther afield! BRAIT, the group that owns Shoprite bought Virgin Active, the British health chain and in September, news broke that Shoprite is looking to buy Morrison’s a British supermarket chain. South African SABMiller took over British Meantime Brewery in May and Aliko Dangote has expressed interest in buy Arsenal football. “Overall, 28 deals, worth $7.4 billion, have involved African companies buying or merging with non-African outfits—about an 82% jump in value over the same period last year”. Celebrating local Zambian talent
Last week we featured the soulful vocalist Scarlet. With Zambia Fashion week taking place this month, we’re turning our attention to Zambian fashion. And what better place to start than with the Mafashio sister duo. Sekayi and Tukiya Fundafunda, aka Kahyi and Kii have become a force to be reckoned with on the Zambian fashion scene after consistently blogging, ‘social mediaring’ (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest) and obviously working very hard. They began blogging about Lusaka street style in 2012 and have grown into a dynamic duo that provides creative flair, style consultancy and kudos through brand association. They describe themselves as Zambian fashion bloggers, stylists, fashion consultants, make-up artists and thrift queens. Spot Kahyi and Kii at all the best industry events. Keep up to date with the great work they are doing for Zambian fashion and early childhood education (via their Fashion Gives Back initiative) on their fashion blog.
Our best wishes for a productive week. Please send your up and coming events, offers, news, and comments to enquiries@thebestofzambia.com or fill in the form below. You can follow us on Facebook or Twitter for updates throughout the week.
