Viola Davis made history on Sunday as she became the first black ‘outstanding actress’ Emmy winner
Quartz has the real life stats behind Viola’s speech (and the speech) right here. This is a full transcript of her speech for which she received a standing ovation, “In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line. But I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line.” That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s. And let me tell you something: The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there. So, here’s to all the writers, the awesome people that are Ben Sherwood, Paul Lee, Peter Nowalk, Shonda Rhimes. People who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be black. And to the Taraji P. Hensons and Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharies, the Meagan Goodes, to Gabrielle Union. Thank you for taking us over that line. Thank you for the Television Academy. Thank you.” Here’s what people are saying about it on Twitter.

Internet growth behind Africa’s digital opportunity
This article by IT Web Africa predicts unprecedented growth entertainment and media in Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria. We wonder how much of it will filter through into Zambia… “Affordable Internet access will continue to digitally disrupt the market in novel and innovative ways. The ongoing spread of services to mobile networks, novel devices and emerging markets will change how media and entertainment are served, consumed and monetised in multiple ways. Affordable Internet access will also inhibit the revenue growth of various sectors as consumers use it to access free, ad-funded and lower-priced subscription-based versions of new and existing media services,” says Vicki Myburgh, entertainment and media leader for PwC Southern Africa

VC investor: Forget the middle class, Africa’s opportunity lies in low-income demand
The investment interest in sub-Saharan Africa continues as London-based venture capital firm TLcom Capital expands its African presence. Interestingly, Maurizio Caio, TLcom’s founder and managing partner said, “Despite the hype around the middle class, the vast majority of big, rising demand on the continent is coming from low-income segments.” Caio goes on to explain how his firm wants to demonstrate the exciting opportunities and high returns possible in Africa.

Celebrating local Zambian talent
Last week we celebrated Namwali Serpell’s writing prowess. This week we’ve been digging a little deeper into Eleftherios Mukuka who we discovered a few months ago and who performs at the Horseshoe Steakhouse this coming Saturday. Eleftherios is a producer and composer with Zambian and Greek roots who studied music at Berklee College of Music. His musical style fuses sub-Saharan and Mediterranean music creating a rather unique sound. Eleftherios has steadily been releasing music since 2013 and ‘Rainfall‘ is his most recent song (released last week) which features Kayla FitzGerald Jacobs. He has also worked with Abel Chungu in ‘Getting there‘ and Alan Thompson in ‘Heart‘. Heart (his debut single) charted at no. 5 on the Danish Chartbase Top 100 in 2013, was released on the Top 40 Winter Hits Compilation CD by Universal Music Greece and won a Zambian Born n Bred Music Video Award in 2014. ‘Yala a Bailer‘ featured on ‘The Best Arabian Nights Party 2015′ and went straight to number 1 in the Emirates album charts. Find more of his music on Soundcloud.
We salute Zambians quietly doing there thing, working hard and slowly but surely building their profile. Keep it up Eleftherios! Follow Eleftherios Mukuka on Twitter to keep up with his music and where he will perform next.

Our best wishes for a productive week. Please send your up and coming events, offers, news, and comments to enquiries@thebestofzambia.com or fill the form below. You can follow us on Facebook or Twitter for updates throughout the week.
